Aquarius, which comes from the Latin word for the water-carrier, governs the period from about January 20 and February 18, and it is an Air sign. Ancient astrologers believed that Aquarius was ruled by Saturn, while modern astrologers deem Uranus to be the primary ruler.

In Greek mythology, Aquarius was thought to be Ganymedes, the young boy from Troy, that was kidnapped by Zeus. Zeus sent his eagle, Aetos, to snatch Ganymede out of the fields where the boy was watching over his sheep. Ganymedes became the cupbearer for the Olympian gods and his job was to keep the wine cups of the gods full.
