Aries, comes from the Latin word for ram, and governs the period from about March 20 and April 20. It is a fire sign and it is ruled by Mars.

In Greek mythology, the constellation of Aries is associated with the Golden Ram that rescued Phrixus and Helle. Phrixus and Helle were the children of King Athamas of Boeotia and his first wife, the nymph Nephele. Athamas divorced Nephele to marry Ino, the daughter of the Phoenician hero Cadmus. In a jealous rage, Ino planned the demise of both Phrixus and his sister, Helle, by tricking Athamas into sacrificing his two children. Phrixus and Helle were saved by a winged ram with golden fleece sent by Hermes. Phrixus was carried to Colchis, where he sacrificed the ram to Zeus out of gratitude. Zeus then placed the ram in the night sky to honor it.
