Cancer, from the original Greek word Karkinos also known as Crab, governs the period from about June 20 and July 22. It is a cardinal water sign and is ruled by the Moon.

In Greek mythology, while Heracles was fighting the Lernaean Hydra, one of the 12 Labours, Hera sent Karkinos, the giant crab to attack Heracles. The crab attacked Heracles’ feet with its claws but Heracles killed it by crushing it with his heel. As a reward, Hera turned Karkinos into the constellation of Cancer.
