Leo, also known as Lion, governs the period from about July 23 to August 22. It is one of the three fire signs, and it is ruled by the Sun.

In Greek mythology, the constellation of Leo was identified as the Nemean Lion. The Nemean lion was a ferocious being that had a golden mane which protected him from any harm, and claws that were sharper than any weapon forged by humans. Heracles had to battle the fierce lion as one of the 12 Labours. Zeus commemorated this labour by placing the Lion in the sky.
