Taurus, which comes from the Greek word that means bull, governs the period from about April 20 and May 20. It is an Earth sign, and it is ruled by Venus.

In Greek mythology, Taurus was identified with Zeus, who assumed the form of a magnificent white bull to abduct Europa, a legendary Phoenician princess. According to the myth, once Zeus saw Europa, he was amazed by her beauty and fell in love with her. He took the form of a bull with a snow-white body and shiny horns. Seeing such a wonderful animal, Europa approached him and then climbed on his back. Zeus carried her away to the island of Crete, where he regained his human form and showered the girl with gifts. Only the front portion of the bull is depicted in the constellation; which is explained as Taurus (Zeus) being partly submerged in water as he carried Europa out to sea.
